05 Dec Life drawing classes in Midlothian
We are delighted to be able to offer life drawing in Midlothian in the new year. Having spent a bit of time liaising with the schools we have now finalised our classes which will be taking place at the new Lasswade High School Centre.
We’ve talked about life drawing and how it can be a great addition to any art portfolio for art college but it is not essential. However, if you enjoy it or have never done it before and can get to class then by all means get on down there and get drawing.
Where: Lasswade High School Centre
When: Tuesday evenings from 7 Jan – 25 March 2014 inclusive, 7-9pm.
How to enroll: You can enroll for life drawing in Midlothian and pay by cheque – call us first on 07815 810797.
Under 16 Permission Policy. Persons under the age of 16 will need to obtain permission from their parent(s) or guardian(s) in order to attend the Portfolio Oomph life drawing sessions that involve nude models. Permission forms (which also contain emergency contact details) may be obtained here and printed and signed and returned prior to the class starting. Please send by post to 16 Park Road, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4JW or scan and return by email to julie@portfolio-oomph.com
What to expect: a relaxed couple of hours drawing from the nude figure. If you’ve not done life drawing before then please come along and find out what it’s all about. All that we learn in the life drawing classes can be transferred to any situation, still life, landscape drawing etc. We’re essentially developing our looking and recording skills. We will start with some quick poses – 2 minutes or less! Yes, you did read that correctly. It’s fun, makes you look for the important elements of the pose and not at the detail. This is a good way to start and takes the pressure off producing a life like drawing if you are new to life drawing.
You’ll be taught about proportion, form, negative space and mark making – everything that is important in a drawing. We will be experimenting with new ways of working and new materials, not just your HB pencil, in fact, leave that at home as we have all materials provided!
Below you will find some examples of work that has been done at our schools portfolio preparation course in East Lothian. Some of these students have never done life drawing before and I am very pleased with how their skills are developing – yours can too! Take a look for yourself.
If you’re reading this and you can’t get to this life drawing in Midlothian or any other class or you don’t think it’s for you then don’t worry, but do find some other way to demonstrate your strong drawing skills in your portfolio.
If you’re stuck for ideas of what to draw and how to get started then take a look at our eCourse Drawing skills; exploration.
